Earn Your Secondary Diploma While Developing Leadership Skills
Our Apprentice Program is an optional one-year teacher training opportunity for GED graduates who want to give back by teaching future refugee students. This unique program combines pedagogical training, hands-on teaching experience, and faith-based leadership development.
Apprentice Program
Duration: 1 year
Eligibility: Must have passed GED test
Cohort Size: 5 participants per year
Cost: Completely FREE
Stipend: RM1,000 per month during the program
Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
Format: Faith-based program with Christian discipleship component
What You’ll Do
Teaching Development
Participate in weekly teaching methods courses
Learn GED curriculum and instructional strategies
Observe experienced teachers in action
Practice lesson planning and delivery
Tutor current GED students in small groups
Lead English Immersion classes for beginners
Assist with classroom management and student support
Gain hands-on experience with diverse learning needs
Leadership & Faith Formation
Participate in weekly Bible studies
Develop a faith-based philosophy of education
Learn servant leadership principles
Connect education to purpose and calling
Community Impact
Make a positive difference in the refugee community
Serve as a role model for current students
Build relationships across cultural and linguistic differences
Develop skills in mentorship and coaching
Please note: Unlike our GED program, the Apprentice Program is explicitly faith-based and includes Christian Bible study and discipleship. Participants should be open to exploring Christian faith and integrating it with their teaching practice.
After Graduation
Successful apprentice program graduates:
Are eligible to apply for full-time teaching positions with Garden City Learning Center
Receive strong professional references
Join our alumni network of educators
Can teach GED subjects at other refugee education centers
Have skills to start their own educational initiatives

Pass the GED Test
Complete all four GED exams successfully

Complete the Apprentice Program application (available after GED completion)

Interview
Participate in an interview with Garden City leadership

Commitment
If accepted, commit to the full 1-year program
